Use vc-scan from your AI assistant
Our AI connector lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any assistant that supports MCP (the Model Context Protocol, the common standard for giving an assistant tools) run six of our tools inside a conversation. Our code does the checking and the valuation maths; your assistant gathers the inputs and writes the summary.
The address

What it can do
Find a UK company
Searches Companies House by name and returns up to 10 candidates with their number, status and town, in the register's own order. Several companies often share a name; the number identifies the one meant.
Up to 500 a day across all users · on the website: Company check
UK company check
The same pre-diligence check as our company check page: status and insolvency, overdue and late filings, charges and whether each was registered on time, ownership, director turnover, the registered office and a disqualified-directors search. No person is named in the answer.
Up to 150 a day across all users · on the website: Company check
Deck claims against public records
Your assistant reads the deck and sends us its factual claims (never the deck itself). We check each one against Companies House, trial and drug registers, UK grants and patents, and label it: supported, no conflict, ask about this, not found, not on a register, or couldn't check.
Up to 30 a day across all users · on the website: Deck scan
Recent funded rounds
Startup funding rounds from public news, collected twice a week, filtered by sector, country, stage and window. Amounts as reported; rumoured rounds kept apart from confirmed ones.
Up to 1,000 a day across all users · on the website: The Intake
Who's writing cheques
Which firms backed the most separate startups in the last 90 days, shown in tie groups rather than a ranking. Firms only, never individuals, and no amounts.
Up to 1,000 a day across all users · on the website: Dry Powder
Startup valuation
The same five-method engine as our valuation page. Your assistant fills in our questionnaire and figures from the deck, the model or what the founder tells it, with the source of each; our engine does all the maths and returns an indicative range with every method, weight and assumption, plus a link that opens the same inputs in our valuation form.
Up to 200 a day across all users · on the website: Valuation

Claude (claude.ai and the Claude apps)
- Go to Customize, then Connectors.
- Choose “+ Add”, then “Add custom connector”.
- Name it vc-scan, paste the address above, and continue.
- Under Authentication choose “No sign in”, then Add.
- In a chat, open the “+” menu, then Connectors, and switch vc-scan on.
Custom connectors work on every Claude plan; the free plan allows one. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it for the organisation first.
Claude Code
Run this once in a terminal, then type /mcp in Claude Code to see it connected:
claude mcp add --scope user --transport http vc-scan https://vc-scan.com/api/mcpWithout --scope user it is added to the current folder only. Claude Code asks your permission the first time each tool runs.
Cursor
Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in one project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"vc-scan": { "url": "https://vc-scan.com/api/mcp" }
}
}ChatGPT and other assistants
ChatGPT adds a custom MCP server by its address, with no authentication; its menus have moved more than once this year, so follow OpenAI's current instructions. Any other assistant that can use a remote MCP server over HTTP needs only the address.
Things to ask
- “Find [company name] on Companies House and run vc-scan's company check on it.”
- “Here is a pitch deck. Check its factual claims against public records with vc-scan; the company number is [number].”
- “Which firms have backed the most startups in the last 90 days?”
- “List this month's UK fintech seed rounds from vc-scan.”
- “Value this company with vc-scan using the attached deck and financial model. Mark anything you can't find a source for as assumed.”
Reading the answers
The findings are ours; the summary is your assistant's. An assistant rewrites what we send, and sometimes states it more strongly than we would: “no entry matched these directors” can come back as “none of the directors is disqualified”. Every answer carries a few “how to read this” sentences and, where there is one, a link to the same result on our website. Open it before you rely on a finding.
Our checks never call a claim “contradicted”: the strongest label is a question to ask. A search that found nothing is not proof that nothing exists, and a check we could not run says so.
Valuations through the connector
- Your assistant answers our questionnaire and supplies the figures, and says where each came from: a document, the founder, a public record, or its own guess. A guess never moves the number: anything marked as assumed is left out, exactly as an unanswered question is on the website, and the answer says how many were left out.
- Our engine does every calculation, the same five methods, benchmarks and weights as our valuation page, so the same inputs always give the same range. The answer shows each method, the weights, what moves the number most, and every assumption.
- The answer includes a link that opens our valuation form already filled in. The inputs travel inside the link and are never stored by us. Check each step there, correct anything misread, and download the report.
- It is an indicative range to prepare a negotiation, not a price. Drug developers and lenders or insurers are not valued by these methods; for drug assets see the drug-asset valuation.
Limits
Each tool has a daily limit shared by everyone using the connector (shown under each tool above). It resets at 00:00 UTC, and the same check stays available on the website meanwhile. When Companies House is busy, the company tools pause for a few minutes so that visitors to our website keep their share.
Privacy
We receive only what your assistant sends to a tool: a company name or number, a deck's claims (never the deck), search filters, or a valuation's answers and figures. We keep a daily count of calls per tool and nothing else. What you share in the conversation itself is handled by the company that runs your assistant, under its own terms. Details in our privacy notice.
Findings to verify, not investment advice and not legal advice. Companies House data can lag real filings by days or weeks. A valuation from these tools is an indicative analysis, not a formal or independent valuation: a valuation is negotiated, not awarded.
