Privacy notice
Last updated: July 2026
vc-scan is built privacy-first: no sign-up, no account, and no email required to run the checks. That matters especially here — founders are rightly nervous about anything touching a cap table or a term sheet. We deliberately collect as little as possible and delete what little we do hold. If anything is unclear, ask us using the contact details at the bottom.
The short version
You can run the Companies House health check and the fundraising readiness audit without telling us who you are. The company data we use is already public. Your questionnaire answers are processed to produce your report and are not stored against you. We don't build profiles, we don't market to you, and we never sell data.
Who we are
vc-scanis a UK-based service providing a pre-diligence readiness audit for founders. For the data described below, we are the "data controller".
What we collect, and why
- The company name or number you ask us to check. We use it to look up that company's public record at Companies House (filings, officers, people with significant control, charges) and produce your report. This is public data.
- Your questionnaire answers. The readiness audit asks you a short set of questions and cross-checks the answers against the public record. Answers are processed in the request to generate your on-screen and PDF report; they are not stored against your identity.
- A soft usage counter. A small per-browser cookie applies a fair-use limit to the free checks (no personal data — just a number and a timestamp).
- Aggregate, anonymous counts. We keep a running total of how many checks were run — a number only, with no company name, no domain, and nothing that identifies you.
- Basic technical logs. Like every website, our hosting providers automatically record technical data such as IP addresses to keep the service secure and running.
That's it. There's no account, no stored email, no marketing list, and no history of your reports kept against you.
Our legal bases
We rely on performance of a contract (to provide the report you ask for), our legitimate interests (to keep the service secure and prevent abuse), and legal obligation where the law requires us to keep certain records.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your data. We use a small number of reputable service providers who process data on our behalf: our hosting and database providers, and — for the checks themselves — Companies House's public API, to which we send the company name or number you asked about. Each acts under our instructions.
International transfers
Some of these providers operate outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by an adequacy decision or an approved safeguard such as the International Data Transfer Agreement.
How long we keep it
We don't store your reports or questionnaire answers against you. Where any confidential upload feature is added later (for example a cap table or a SAFE), it will use an ephemeral model — a secret access link, only a hash stored, and automatic deletion after a short grace window — and this notice will be updated to describe it before it goes live.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to receive a copy of data you gave us. To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below — we'll respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We use only strictly-necessary cookies: a small counter that applies a fair-use limit to the free checks (no personal data — just a number), and, for an administrator, a sign-in cookie. We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
